About our Club
Founded on the belief that basketball is more than just a sport, the Astéries Basketball Club is a place for young athletes to develop their skills, build lasting friendships and grow both personally and athletically.
Our mission
Our mission is to promote and supervise young people in the exercise of basketball at the participatory and competitive levels, while promoting their well-being and their development on the physical, cognitive and social levels in a stimulating environment. Our vision is that all the teams of the Astéries Basketball Club are and remain structured, efficient and recognized teams across Quebec.
Our history
The Les Astéries de Victoriaville Basketball Club is a civil organization, founded in the 1980s by Micheline Labbé and Charles Gagnon. Originally, the non-profit organization was solely dedicated to the development of women's basketball. Since 2012, boys have now been included in the Astéries program.
The organization is supported by a board of directors made up of parents of players, coaches and volunteers who have the Astéries cause at heart. The name Astéries was selected following a competition. An Astérie is a starfish.
Our values
The Club recognizes five values which are the basis of the guidelines of players, parents, coaches, board of directors and staff. This is what should be like each of us individually and all at the same time.
Team spirit
It means participating in achieving a shared objective, collaborating with others, prioritizing the success of the group rather than individual success. Team spirit necessarily implies that there is a link between the different members of the Club and that this link unites them and gives them the impression of being one with each other, of forming a team.
Sportsmanship
It means accepting the rules and the different codes of sport that are in place, while respecting opponents, coaches, officials and above all oneself. It's giving your all in victory as well as in defeat.
Respect
It means showing consideration for all those involved within the Club, by showing courtesy, listening, discretion and avoiding any discrimination.
Self-transcendence
It means demonstrating a positive attitude that allows you to get out of your comfort zone and exceed your limits. Surpassing oneself is a competition in which the only opponent to face is oneself, one's own limits.
Commitment
It means taking actions in line with the Club's objectives and underpins perseverance and constant effort in what we do. Commitment ensures that players, parents, coaches, staff and the board of directors feel a sense of loyalty and trust in each other and promotes organizational effectiveness.
